The US Embassy-American Spaces in Puerto Princesa recently hosted the second cohort of the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) Puerto Princesa 2024 program on 11 October, 2024 at the Palawan State University (PalawanSU), American Corner, University Library Building. This initiative, designed to empower women entrepreneurs in the region, brought together a diverse group of aspiring business owners for a series of workshops and mentorship sessions. A delegation from the US Embassy-American Spaces visited Palawan State University to attend the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) program. The delegation included Ms. Della Hareland, Public Engagement Director, Ms. Mylyn Garcia, American Center Director, and Ms. Janice Freytag, Grants Manager.
Their presence underscored the Embassy’s commitment to supporting the program and its goals.
The AWE program, established by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) in 2019, provides women with the tools and resources they need to launch and grow successful businesses. Since its inception, AWE has been implemented in nearly 100 countries, reaching approximately 25,000 women. Participants in the Puerto Princesa cohort received training in business planning, marketing, financial management, and leadership development. The AWE program also includes mentorship opportunities, which connect participants with experienced business leaders who can provide guidance and advice. Mentors from the local community shared their insights and experiences, offering valuable perspectives on the challenges and rewards of entrepreneurship.
The US Embassy-American Spaces in Puerto Princesa continues to be a cornerstone for cultural exchange and educational opportunities in the region. By hosting programs like the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE), the Embassy is not only strengthening the relationship between the United States and the Philippines but also empowering women to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams.
A notable aspect of this partnership is the longstanding collaboration between the US Embassy-American Spaces and Palawan State University (PalawanSU), the latter being a steadfast partner in implementing various initiatives, contributing significantly to the success of programs like AWE. This collaboration underscores the commitment of both institutions to fostering educational growth and economic empowerment in the community.
