Representatives of the University of the Philippines Resilience Institute (UPRI) presented a proposed partnership with Palawan State University (PalawanSU) on September 29 at the Office of the University President.
The UPRI delegation was composed of Dr. Emmanuel Luna, Ms. Lea Victorina Serrano, and Ms. Dainty Clarice V. Rabang.
UPRI stressed the importance of building local community resilience and named state universities and colleges, as well as other higher education institutions in the province, as key academic partners.
The institute has existing partnerships with Western Philippines University (WPU), the City Government of Puerto Princesa, and the Provincial Government of Palawan. UPRI, PalawanSU, and WPU will next co-design a tripartite Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to formalize the collaboration.
UPRI conducts disaster risk research and hazard mapping, with a focus on flood control and the operational components of Project NOAH: flood modeling, ground shaking, liquefaction, tsunami assessment, land subsidence, tephra fall, and post-disaster assessment.
It is also part of PhilPrep, a quadripartite agreement with the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), the Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation (PDRF), and the Center for Disaster Preparedness (CDP).
The productive meeting also opened the door to more collaborations between PalawanSU and UPRI.
