Palawan State University’s Tiniguiban Heights campus came alive as the institution kicked off its four-day welcome celebration, the Burungitan Rites 2026, spanning August 17 to 20, 2026. Designed to introduce incoming students to college life, the series of events seamlessly blends traditions, informative sessions, and community building for the university’s newest Bearcats.
The main program opened with preliminaries and remarks from USG President John Grover Longsud, setting an inspiring tone for the evening. Attendees gained insight into the university’s legacy through a historical video presentation, followed by the official presentation of students by Engr. Dexter B. Tanabe, Dean, Student Affairs and Services Division. Key leadership address was delivered by University President Dr. Venzon L. Limpiada, represented by the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Prof. Marissa S. Pontillas, alongside an introduction of the university officials by the Director of the Office of the University Public Information, Ms. Claire Calbentos.
Blending academic excellence with vibrant culture, the celebration featured a captivating performance by the PalawanSU Sining Palawan Dance Troupe (SPDT) alongside the formal recognition of the Top 10 PalawanSU College Admission Test (CAT) examinees, led by SAS-Admission Services Unit Head, Ms. Evangeline N. Dela Cruz. On behalf of the honorees, Charles Noel L. Castro – a Bachelor of Science in Biology, Major in Medical Biology student from the College of Sciences who ranked first overall in the entrance exam – delivered an inspiring Challenge Acceptance Speech.
The program concluded with closing remarks from the Dean of the Student Affairs and Services Division, Engr. Dexter Tanabe, before wrapping up on a high note with an energetic Unity Dance.
