Together, We Rise: A Glimpse into PalawanSU’s Freshmen Orientation and Burungitan Rites 2024
Palawan State University (PalawanSU) welcomed a fresh batch of students with a vibrant and meaningful orientation program and the traditional Burungitan Rites, held on August 20-22, 2024, under the theme, “Together, We Rise – Celebrating and Empowering Every Voice, Unleashing Every Talent of PalawanSUan”.

The freshmen orientation was a grand affair, filled with exciting activities, inspiring talks, and captivating cultural performances. The event served as a platform for new students to familiarize themselves with the university’s culture, policies, and academic programs.

One of the highlights of the orientation was the Burungitan Rites. This time-honored tradition is a symbolic ritual that marks the students’ transition from high school to college life. The rites involve various activities that aim to empower the freshmen and instill in them the values of unity, discipline, and perseverance. Dr. Ramon M. Docto, the University President, delivered a warm message, encouraging the new students to embrace their journey and make the most of their time at PalawanSU, while the four (4) Vice Presidents also delivered their welcome messages to the freshmen.

Another highlights of the event were the following: 1. Academic Orientation, where the students were introduced to the University Officials and to the different academic programs offered by the university, as well as the academic policies and expectations; 2. Student Government Orientation, where various student organizations and activities were introduced that the freshmen can participate in; 3. Cultural Performances with colorful and energetic cultural performances showcasing the rich heritage of Palawan; and the Burungitan Rituals (Purungitan and Burutudan) where the freshmen participated in various rituals, such as the Rites of Passage Ceremony, Binyag PalawanSUan, Diversity Dance, and the Unity Dance Competition.

Generally, the freshmen orientation and Burungitan Rites were a resounding success, setting the tone for a promising academic year for the new PalawanSUans. As they embark on their college journey, the students can be confident that they are part of a vibrant and supportive community that is committed to their growth and development.
