On March 20, 2026, delegates of the 2026 UTHP General Membership Meeting and International Research Conference planted mangroves at the Palawan State University (PalawanSU) Main Campus as their corporate social responsibility initiative.
The event commenced with an address from Vice President for Finance and Administration Dr. Venzon L. Limpiada who highlighted that at PalawanSU, sustainability is a “lived commitment,” noting that planting Rhizophora propagules (mangrove seedlings/seedpods) serves as an act of planting “protection, shelter, and hope.” He reminded the UTHP delegates, academic partners, and the Philippine Coast Guard that each seedling bridges the gap between research and real-world climate action.
To foster camaraderie, the program featured a high-energy Zumba session before participants waded into the coastline to plant hundreds of mangrove seedlings. This hands-on stewardship was followed by a Pledge of Sustainability, where volunteers dipped their palms in paint to leave a permanent “handprint commitment” on a dedicated bulletin board.
The event concluded with a spirited community performance of Solteros, a traditional Cuyunon dance. Through this blend of activities, the UTHP 2026 delegates ensured that the conference’s lasting legacy is a greener, more resilient coastline.
