May 31, 2023 – Palawan State University President, Dr. Ramon M. Docto, had signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on academic and educational cooperation with the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB ) on May 31, 2023 at the UPLB Chancellor’s Office in Laguna.

Present during the MOU signing are: Dr. Jose Camacho Jr, UPLB Chancellor; Dr. Ricardo Sandalo, Dean of UPLB-CHE; Dr. Greg Pawilen, Director of UPLB Office of Institutional Development in Higher Education (OIDHE), and AProf. Eva Marie Ponce de Leon, GS Faculty and Asst. University & Board Secretary of PSU.
The undertaking aims to accelerate PSU’s response to the call for societal transformation- a mandate common to all higher educational institutions. The MOU opens opportunities for PSU to collaborate with UPLB in developing mutually beneficial activities for the two universities specific to the following areas of interest: (1) faculty and student exchange; (2) research and extension projects; (3) lectures, symposia and other capacity-building programs, and (4) exchange of academic information and materials.

In his message, President Docto mentioned that even before this MOU, there has been ongoing collaborations between the two universities. For instance, PSU hosted the Open University admissions for UP and UPLB and enjoined personnel to participate in UPLB – organized knowledge activities. Dr. Docto also thanked the UPLB’s College of Human Ecology (UPLB-CHE) and the PSU-Graduate School (PSU-GS) for initiating the partnership. Recently, UPLB-CHE and PSU-GS co-hosted two online learning events, the Palawan Monitor and Likha. The PSU-GS and PSU-Bataraza also coordinated activities for a research-extension project for UPLB-CHE in southern Palawan.
These are all done for quality education, providing equal opportunities for relevant, innovative, and advanced studies for lifelong learning and sustainable development of every PSUan.
