March 2, 2023 – With a theme, “Mag-uruyunan ig magtarabiangan para sa Progresibong Palawan State U”, Palawan State University welcomed the Baragatan sa PSU 2023 on March 2, 2023 at PSU Gymnasium.

The event opened with a Thanksgiving service prepared by the Faculty and Staff Club, with Prof. Mary Juris L. Ednilao. The thanksgiving service began with a welcome message by Engr. Michael Ernie F. Rodriguez, a faculty of the Department of Electrical Engineering – CEAT, followed by the violin rendition given by Ms. Leighanna Charlize R. Caagbay, a Grade 10 student from the PSU Laboratory Junior High School (PSU – LJHS). Mr. Manuel M. Tana Jr., a faculty of the College of Arts and Humanities (CAH), led the opening prayer after the opening song given by the Praise Team. Meanwhile, Prof. Imelda C. Pacaldo, a faculty from the College of Sciences (CS), introduced the speaker, while Mr. Bryx A. Nugas and Ms. Mozaira B. Miscala, faculty from the Laboratory Elementary School (LES) and College of Business and Accountancy (CBA), delivered a song offering. After the song offering, Pastor Ramil P. Rey, Family Ministries and Communication Director of Palawan Mission of Seventh-Day Adventist Church and the guest speaker of the service, conveyed his message. It was followed by the closing song from the Praise Team and the closing prayer administered by Pastor Rey.

Right after the thanksgiving service, the opening program for Baragatan sa PSU 2023 followed soon after. The festivities began with welcome remarks from the Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA), Dr. Elucila M. Sespeñe, who was represented by Dr. Ric A. Tajolosa – Dean of the College of Arts and Humanities (CAH). It was then followed by an inspirational message given by Dr. Ramon M. Docto – University President. 

Dr. Docto, in his remarks, expressed his gratitude to everyone who made PSU what it is today. He shared that the University has reached significant milestones, and that this would not be possible without those who served in the past, in varying capacities. He expressed such gratitude to each of his predecessors, the past University Presidents, as well as the Officers-in-Charge. He also acknowledged the countless faculty members and students who have played a key role in the growth and strength of the University. Furthermore, he exhorted everyone to continue to strive for what is best for the University, and to continue to bring honor and glory to PSU. He emphasized the need for unity among the entire PSU community. 

At the said event, Prof. Baltazar A. Bantillo –  Director of the Public Information Office (PIO) launched the PSU Branding, which aimed to inform everyone of the importance of using the correct branding of the University to ensure its reach and familiarity among the members of the community.

Dr. Janet B. Oab – Faculty Union President and Faculty Regent, meanwhile, launched the Faculty Union In Action, also known as the “FU In Action” hotlines, which aimed to provide faculty members with the means to seek timely assistance with their concerns. Dr. Teresita D. Tajolosa, Public Information Officer of the Faculty Union launched the FU Multidisciplinary Research Journal Call for Papers, which aimed to allow faculty members the opportunity to have their research published.

On the other hand, Arch. Anthony P. Anderson, Special TWG Head, presented a sneak peek of the Proposed Faculty Center.

The opening program was concluded with closing remarks given by Dr. Grace N. Abrina – Director of Student Affairs and Services (OSAS).

The Baragatan sa PSU 2023 is a two-day event that was packed with activities such as the Groundbreaking Ceremony for the proposed Faculty Center, VAX to VAX Vaccination initiative for Pneumonia and Cervical Cancer, and Bloodletting Activity held at PSU Performing Arts Center (PAC). The activities were prepared in collaboration with the PSU Faculty Union, Adventist Hospital Palawan, and the City Government of Puerto Princesa. The event ran from March 2 to 3.
