April 1–7, 2025 — Cuyo, Palawan
The Office of the Vice President for External Campuses (OVPEC), in collaboration with the University Research Office (URO) and University Extension Services Office (UESO), successfully conducted a weeklong Research and Extension (R&E) Orientation and Training at PSU-PCAT Cuyo from April 1 to 7, 2025. The initiative aimed to build faculty capacity in research and extension planning, implementation, and documentation.
Research and Extension Services and Protocol Orientation
The activity began with a comprehensive orientation on R&E services and protocols, facilitated by URO staff Ms. Marilyn M. Arenio, Ms. Leony Rose M. Bantaculo, Ms. Mishel Angielic G. Castro, and Ms. Alexes Mae C. Diaz. On the extension side, Mr. Lesbert L. Bayanay from UESO led the discussions with assistance of Mr. James Rodolfo Abalus for the technical needs. Topics included service protocols, output monitoring, budget planning, required forms, and alignment with PREXC targets.
Research and Extension Proposal Writing Training
The second and third days focused on R& E proposal writing training. Sessions covered research problem identification, review of related literature, research design, and crafting research-based extension proposals aligned with academic programs. A total of 12 research and 10 extension proposals were consolidated and presented. URO Director Dr. Floredel Galon and Statistician Ms. Alexes Mae Diaz participated virtually as panelists, providing feedback and recommendations.
Local stakeholders’ visitation
On April 5, the team visited local stakeholders, including salt producers and the Cuyo Airport, to identify potential areas for community-based extension projects. The visit concluded on April 7 with the team’s return to Puerto Princesa.
This collaborative effort underscores the university’s commitment to enhancing the effectiveness and impact of its research and extension programs across campuses and communities.
