Coron, Palawan – A team from Palawan State University (PSU) led by Vice President for External Campuses Dr. Rodolfo O. Abalus, Jr. visited PSU Coron Campus from April 27 to May 1, 2025, to conduct a series of Research and Extension Orientation and Training aimed at strengthening faculty capacities in proposal development and program implementation.
Joining Dr. Abalus were Dr. Shirley D. Dangan, Special Assistant to the VPEC; Dr. Liezl F. Tangonan, Director of the University Extension Services Office (UESO); Mr. Lesbert L. Bayanay, UESO staff; and Ms. Mishel Angielic G. Castro of the University Research Office.
The team arrived in Coron on April 27 via 2GO shipping lines and was warmly welcomed by students and faculty with a traditional local dance at the port. The following day, they participated in the campus flag-raising ceremony before formally beginning the training sessions.
Following the model used during a similar visit to PSU Cuyo, the workshops covered essential topics including research and extension services and processes/protocols, budget planning, and proposal development. On April 29, faculty members focused on crafting research and extension proposals aligned with their respective academic programs.
The proposals were presented on April 30 and will undergo peer review prior to submission for funding and approval. The initiative aims to ensure that each campus develops concrete, program-specific plans for research and community service.
The PSU team returned to Puerto Princesa on May 1 via fast craft from Coron to El Nido, followed by a land trip back to the city.
