The Palawan International Technology Business Incubator (PITBI), in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) MIMAROPA, hosted the “Women Helping Women: Innovating Social Enterprise (WHWISE) Post Women’s Month Activity and National Innovation Day Celebration” on April 19, 2024, at the 2nd Floor Student Innovation Park Building. The event, a collaboration between the DOST-MIMAROPA and PITBI, commemorated the remarkable achievements of women, fostering creativity, and advancing initiatives that aim to shape a more inclusive and innovative future for all.

The event commenced with a warm welcome from Dr. Ramon M. Docto, President of Palawan State University (PalawanSU), who emphasized the importance of recognizing and supporting the contributions of women in the fields of entrepreneurship and innovation. Dr. Ma. Josefina P. Abilay, Regional Director of DOST-MIMAROPA, also shared her message, highlighting the continuous efforts to empower women across the region.

The program featured a brief introduction to the WHWISE initiative, presented by Ms. Liezl D. Sueno, Senior Science Research Specialist of DOST-PCIEERD. Ms. Sueno outlined the program’s mission to empower women through entrepreneurship and innovation, providing them with the tools and resources necessary to succeed in the business world.

Representatives from the Western Philippines University-Agri-based Technology Business Incubator (WPU-ATBI) and PITBI shared insights into their respective programs and initiatives.
Dr. Maria Mojena G. Plasus, Professor V at WPU, presented the ongoing efforts and successes of WPU-ATBI, highlighting its role in fostering innovation within the agricultural sector.

The event also featured inspirational talks from successful women entrepreneurs who have made significant strides in their fields. Ms. Donna Marie I. Lecaroz, Co-Founder of Island Harvest Agriventures, shared her journey of building a sustainable agribusiness. Ms. Paula Nikole Q. Prado, Founder of Iconik Travel Services, discussed the challenges and triumphs of establishing a travel enterprise. Ms. Sharon Q. Abdon, Owner of CNelleJ Souvenir Shop,
recounted her experiences in growing a local business and contributing to the community.

The event concluded with closing remarks from Dr. Amabel S. Liao, President of Western Philippines University (WPU). Dr. Liao expressed her gratitude to all participants and reiterated the importance of collaboration and innovation in driving societal progress.
