The Palawan State University community gathered this morning, January 12, 2026 for its regular flag-raising ceremony, an occasion that marked both the opening of the year and a significant transition in the University’s leadership. Hosted by the College of Architecture and Design (CAD) and the College of Hospitality and Tourism Management (CHTM), the event served as a formal turnover of administrative leadership.

The event highlighted the first ten (10) days of 2026, a brief yet crucial transition period guided by Dr. Marjorie A. Española, who served as Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Office of the University President. She was commended for her steady leadership and dedication in ensuring the University’s continued operations at the start of the year. In her parting message, Dr. Española expressed her gratitude for the cooperation of the faculty, staff, and students.

As the search for a permanent University President continues, the Board of Regents, through a resolution issued on December 26, 2025, designated two transitional leaders. Following Dr. Española’s term, Prof. Marissa S. Pontillas, a seasoned academic leader within the institution, officially assumes the role of Officer-in-Charge of the Office of the University President, effective today.

In her message to the University community, Prof. Pontillas emphasized the deeper meaning of the Panunumpa ng Lingkod Bayan, challenging everyone to live out its principles beyond the weekly recitation. She underscored that the oath is a daily commitment to integrity and excellence in public service.

Before the conclusion of the rites, the Office of Human Resource Management and Development (OHRMD), led by SAO Mr. Francisco III O. Baluyut, recognized the recent achievements of University personnel. The community congratulated Atty. Hannah Jazel P. Capague-Tabujara of the University Legal Office for passing the Bar Examinations, and Ms. Marielle Ann F. Astacaan of the IPQAIA for passing the Board of Agriculture Examination.

The ceremony concluded with a strong sense of unity and support. While leaders change, PalawanSU remains committed in its mission of upgrading people’s quality of life by providing education opportunities through excellent instruction, research and innovation, extension, production services, and transnational collaborations.
