The Palawan State University (PSU) community gathered at the PSU Amphitheatre on October 26, 2026, to celebrate Indigenous Peoples Month with an inspiring film screening and cultural forum. Organized by the Palawan Studies Center and Sentro ng Wika at Kultura-PalawanSU, the event highlighted the importance of preserving indigenous heritage and amplifying local narratives.
The program featured the poignant documentaries Basal Banar and Busong by acclaimed Palaw’an filmmaker Kanakan-Balintagos. Through these works, students and faculty from the College of Teacher Education, College of Arts and Humanities, and College of Nursing and Health Sciences gained a deeper appreciation for indigenous storytelling, knowledge systems, and cultural preservation.
Director Michael Angelo A. Doblado of the Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Office (IPTTO) opened the event with warm welcome remarks, setting a reflective tone for the celebration. PalawanSU President Dr. Venzon L. Limpiada followed with an inspirational message, emphasizing the university’s commitment to supporting indigenous communities and promoting inclusive education. A key highlight of the event was an engaging open forum following the film screenings, which sparked meaningful dialogue among attendees on indigenous representation, heritage preservation, and community empowerment. Special gratitude is extended to Professor Jerone Avel S. Cansino, Director of the university Sentro ng Wika at Kultura, along with the student officers of the CAH-SC for their vital contributions to making the event a resounding success.
The celebration officially concluded with closing remarks from Director Lea M. Camangeg of the Office of University Research and Creative Works, who reinforced the institution’s dedication to supporting cultural research and creative endeavors.
The successful gathering stands as a heartfelt tribute to the rich traditions, stories, and enduring spirit of our indigenous communities. Mabuhay ang ating mga mahal na Katutubo!
