Palawan State University held the third batch of its 56th Commencement Exercises on the morning of July 1, 2026, at the Edward S. Hagedorn Coliseum in Puerto Princesa City, celebrating the achievements of 675 graduates from the College of Architecture and Design, College of Engineering, and College of Sciences. Joined by their proud families, mentors, faculty members, and distinguished guests, the graduates marked the culmination of years of perseverance, academic excellence, and unwavering commitment as they officially became part of the University’s Class of 2026.
The academic procession formally opened the ceremony, followed by the invocation led by Ms. Jamaica C. Magbanua, Magna Cum Laude graduate of the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science program. Dr. Maila N. Lucero delivered the welcome remarks, warmly congratulating the graduates and acknowledging the collective efforts of their families, faculty members, and the University community in making the occasion possible.
The presentation of candidates for graduation was conducted by the respective college deans, after which Officer-in-Charge President Prof. Marissa S. Pontillas formally conferred the degrees upon the graduates. The ceremony was witnessed by members of the Palawan State University Board of Regents, key University officials, faculty members, administrative personnel, and distinguished guests.
Serving as the commencement speaker was Dr. Jillian Aira S. Gabo-Ratio, Professor at the National Institute of Geological Sciences, University of the Philippines Diliman. In her address, Dr. Gabo-Ratio reminded the graduates that education carries a responsibility beyond personal success. She encouraged them to become responsible stewards of the environment, use their knowledge to uplift the lives of others, and lead with integrity, compassion, and purpose. She emphasized that meaningful change begins with individuals who continue to learn, act responsibly, and serve their communities with commitment and humility.
Following the commencement address, the PSU Singers rendered a musical offering that added a meaningful and celebratory atmosphere to the occasion.
The graduates also received recorded messages of congratulations and encouragement from Dr. Shirley C. Agrupis, Chairperson of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED); Hon. Jude A. Acidre, Representative of the TINGOG Party-list, Chairperson of the House Committee on Higher and Technical Education, and Member of the Palawan State University Board of Regents; and Hon. Amy R. Alvarez, Governor of the Province of Palawan. In their messages, they commended the graduates for their perseverance and encouraged them to pursue excellence as they embark on the next chapter of their lives.
Representing the graduating class, Frencious Cathleigh R. Apdon, Magna Cum Laude and Bachelor of Science in Medical Biology graduate, delivered the graduates’ response on behalf of the Class of 2026. Reflecting on their shared journey, she acknowledged the challenges, uncertainties, and moments of self-doubt they had overcome to reach this significant milestone. She reminded her fellow graduates that perseverance and determination had brought them to this moment and encouraged them to move forward with confidence and hope. She also expressed heartfelt gratitude to their families, mentors, friends, and everyone who supported them throughout their academic journey.
The ceremony continued with the recitation of the Pledge of Loyalty led by Keff Ivan C. Decolongon, Loyalty Awardee and Bachelor of Science in Information Technology graduate, followed by the induction of the Class of 2026 into the Palawan State University Alumni Association led by Hon. Glenn D. Vallejo, Alumni Regent.
The commencement exercises concluded with the singing of the Palawan State University Hymn, symbolizing the graduates’ enduring connection to their alma mater as they begin a new chapter in their lives.
