The Palawan State University (PalawanSU) Faculty Union (FU) has launched a community engagement project in Tribal Village, Barangays Salvacion and Bahile, Puerto Princesa City. The initiative aims to provide various services and activities to the local residents.
As initial activity, the faculty members conducted a focus group discussion (FGD) and needs assessment to identify the specific needs of the community.
Following the assessment, there will be a signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Barangay Officials, the University, and the Faculty Union to formalize the partnership and outline the project’s scope and objectives. This collaborative effort will involve faculty members from all colleges within the university, ensuring a diverse range of expertise and perspectives. Depending on the specific needs identified during the assessment, the faculty members will provide various services or activities to the community.
The project is being led by Dr. Janet B. Oab and Dr. Leonora A. Beguina, with the support of Dr. Lilibeth E. Nadayao, Prof. Leticia B. Ventura, Prof. Junifer Alcorano, Prof. Ma. Carmen S. Hernandez, Prof. Rene Buliag, and Mr. Lesbert Bayanay, University Extension Office Staff.
The initial FGD and needs assessment were met with overwhelming enthusiasm from the community, with nearly 100 residents participating. This positive response indicates strong support for the Faculty Union’s efforts to contribute to the well-being of the Tribal Village.
The Faculty Union also extends its sincere gratitude to Atty. Rhodel Magrata, Dean of the College of Arts and Humanities (CAH), Dr. Rodolfo O. Abalus, Jr., Director of the University Extension Services Office (UESO), Dr. Marjorie A. Española, Vice President for Research, Development and Extension (VPRDE), and Dr. Ramon M. Docto, University President, for their invaluable support and encouragement of this community engagement project.
