A total of 866 graduates from the College of Business and Accountancy were honored during the fourth batch of Palawan State University’s 56th Commencement Exercises held on the afternoon of July 1, 2026, at the Edward S. Hagedorn Coliseum in Puerto Princesa City. The ceremony celebrated not only the graduates’ academic achievements but also the unwavering support of their families, mentors, and the University community that helped them reach this significant milestone.
The ceremony formally commenced with the academic procession, followed by the invocation led by Patricia Lorraine G. Bacomo, Magna Cum Laude graduate of the Bachelor of Science in Accountancy program. The PSU Singers then rendered the Philippine National Anthem, setting a solemn and dignified tone for the occasion.
In her welcome remarks, Dr. Maila N. Lucero, Vice President for Academic Affairs, extended her congratulations to the graduating class and recognized the collective efforts of parents, faculty members, and the entire University community in helping shape the graduates’ academic journey.
Dr. Mary Grace A. Masdo, Dean of the College of Business and Accountancy, formally presented the candidates for graduation. Officer-in-Charge of the Office of the University President, Prof. Marissa S. Pontillas, then conferred the degrees upon the graduates before introducing the commencement speaker.
Delivering the commencement address was Hon. Erwin Tulfo, Senator of the Republic of the Philippines. In his message, Senator Tulfo encouraged the graduates to dream big and never allow anyone to define the limits of their potential. He reminded them that success is not reserved for those who graduate from prestigious universities in the country’s capital, emphasizing that “excellence has no permanent address.” He urged the Class of 2026 to pursue their aspirations with confidence, uphold integrity in all that they do, and use their education to create meaningful change in their communities and contribute to nation-building.
A musical offering by the PSU Singers followed, adding a heartfelt moment of reflection and celebration to the program.
The graduates also received recorded messages of congratulations and encouragement from Dr. Shirley C. Agrupis, Chairperson of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED); Hon. Jude A. Acidre, Representative of the TINGOG Party-list, Chairperson of the House Committee on Higher and Technical Education, and Member of the Palawan State University Board of Regents; and Hon. Amy R. Alvarez, Governor of the Province of Palawan. In their messages, they commended the graduates for their perseverance and encouraged them to pursue excellence as they embark on the next chapter of their lives.
Representing the graduating class, Steffani Gail L. Valdez, Summa Cum Laude graduate of the Bachelor of Science in Public Administration program, delivered the graduates’ response on behalf of the Class of 2026. Reflecting on her personal journey, she shared that as a child, she was often praised for being smart, inspiring her to pursue academic excellence. As she grew older, however, she came to realize that true intelligence is not defined by awards or recognition, but by the courage to persevere and the choice to keep going when life becomes difficult. She reminded her fellow graduates that being truly smart means choosing to stay, to learn, and to rise despite setbacks. Encouraging the Class of 2026 to continue giving their best in every endeavor, she also expressed heartfelt gratitude to their families, mentors, classmates, and everyone who stood by them throughout their academic journey.
The ceremony continued with the recitation of the Pledge of Loyalty led by Shiera Loise A. Cabiguen, Loyalty Awardee and Bachelor of Science in Criminology graduate, followed by the induction of the Class of 2026 into the Palawan State University Alumni Association led by Hon. Glenn D. Vallejo, Alumni Regent. The commencement exercises concluded with the singing of the Palawan State University Hymn, symbolizing the graduates’ enduring bond with their alma mater.
Joining the celebration were members of the Palawan State University Board of Regents, college deans, faculty members, key administrative officials, University personnel, proud families, and distinguished guests, whose presence reflected the University’s shared commitment to honoring the achievements of its newest graduates.
As they leave the halls of Palawan State University, the 866 graduates of the College of Business and Accountancy carry with them not only the knowledge and skills gained through years of study, but also the values of excellence, integrity, and public service. Their commencement marks both the culmination of one journey and the beginning of countless opportunities to create meaningful impact in business, government, and the communities they will serve.
