PalawanSU commemorated its 59th Charter Day this year with an impactful initiative: a startup mangrove tree planting activity aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on June 19, 2024 at PalawanSU Main Campus.
This event brought together university officials headed by Dr. Ramon M. Docto, University President, Dr. Marjorie A. Espańola, Vice-President for Research, Development and Extension, other university officials, directors, faculty and staff, and some student volunteers, to participate in a collective effort towards a greener future.
Mangroves are vital ecosystems that provide a critical habitat for marine life, protect coastlines from erosion and storm surges, and act as natural filters for water. Planting these trees directly contributes to several SDGs, and this activity highlights the growing focus on environmental sustainability within the city, and sets a positive example for other institutions to integrate eco-conscious practices into their operations.
This Charter Day celebration reaffirms PalawanSU’s position as a leader in sustainable development efforts, not only in the city but throughout the country and on the global stage as well. The mangrove tree planting activity concluded with a sense of accomplishment and a renewed commitment to environmental stewardship.
The newly planted mangroves serve as a symbol of the university’s dedication to building a greener future for generations to come. A free porridge (lugaw), pandesal, and overflowing coffee were served after the mangrove planting activity at PalawanSU Hostel.
