Palawan State University (PalawanSU) and the Department of Education (DepEd), Schools Division of Puerto Princesa City, formalized a partnership on December 9, 2025, through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) aimed at strengthening the basic and functional mathematics literacy and problem-solving skills of Alternative Learning System (ALS) learners, held at the 2nd Floor, PITBI Building, PalawanSU Main Campus. The partnership supports the extension program of the General Education – Mathematics and Science Department titled: “Ugnayang Sipnayan: Enhancing Mathematics Literacy and Problem-Solving Skills of Grade 11 Learners under the Alternative Learning System (ALS) K to 12 Basic Education Senior High School Curriculum, Department of Education, Division of Puerto Princesa City.”
The agreement was entered into by Palawan State University, represented by University President Dr. Ramon M. Docto, through Prof. Jerico M. Padrones, Director of the Office of Integrated Planning, Quality Assurance, and Internal Audit (IPQAIA), and the Department of Education, Schools Division of Puerto Princesa City, headed by CESO VI Laida M. Lagar-Mascareñas, Schools Division Superintendent, represented by Dr. Cyril C. Serador, Chief Education Supervisor of the Curriculum Implementation Division.
The PalawanSU Mathematics Faculty’s responsibilities under the agreement primarily involve enhancing mathematics literacy and problem-solving skills among learners by facilitating tutorial and mentorship sessions on fundamental topics. Additionally, the faculty is tasked with designing and developing supplementary mathematics learning materials aligned with the ALS curriculum, monitoring attendance, learning activities, performance, and ensuring the health and safety of all participants during extension activities, conducting post-assessments to gauge the program’s impact on students’ knowledge, skills, and attitudes toward mathematics, and facilitating research collaboration between the PalawanSU Mathematics Department faculty and DepEd partners.
The MOA signing was attended by Dr. Ronald Edilberto A. Ona, Dean of the College of Sciences; Dr. Liezl F. Tangonan, Director of the University Extension Services Office (UESO); Dr. Marichu G. Mozo, Chairperson of the GEMS Department and Extension Program Lead Proponent; Ms. Janneth S. Daganta, College of Sciences Extension Coordinator; and faculty members of the Mathematics Department.
