The Conference on Open Innovation in the Public Sector, held from August 28 to 29, 2024, brought together leaders, innovators, and policymakers from across Asia to explore new approaches to fostering innovation in the public sector. Hosted by the Asian Productivity Organization (APO) and the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) at Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria, the conference focused on promoting strategies for national development and enhancing the role of public institutions in creating sustainable economic growth.
The two-day event was filled with keynote addresses, panel discussions, and case studies aimed at building a dynamic innovation ecosystem in the public sector. Attendees explored various themes, including public-private partnerships, empowering middle managers for innovation, and system-based approaches to solving challenges faced by government agencies. Distinguished speakers from international organizations and public institutions, including representatives from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), contributed insights on how to embrace open innovation to enhance public service delivery.
Among the participants, Hannah Faith M. Navarro, Administrative Officer V of the University Quality Assurance Center (UQAC) under the Integrated Planning, Quality Assurance, and Internal Audit (IPQAIA) Office, proudly represented both the university and the Philippines. Ms. Navarro was one of the few selected delegates from the country, participating in discussions on collaborative innovation and public-sector transformation. Her involvement highlighted Palawan State University’s commitment to advancing public sector innovation and supporting the national drive toward sustainable development.
This international event serves as a stepping stone for Palawan State University to continue its engagement in global discussions on public-sector reform, ensuring that it remains at the forefront of education and administrative excellence in the Philippines.
