March 6, 2023 – The Palawan State University, being one with the nation in the celebration of the National Women’s Month,  actively welcomed, and celebrated the one-month celebration for women today through a Kick-Off Program held last March 6, 2023 at the PSU – Main Campus Grounds. With a theme, “WE for Gender Equality and Inclusive Society”, the PSU community, spearheaded by the Gender and Development Office (GADO), headed by Prof. Mary Jane E. Taladtad – GAD Director, joined the parade earlier in the morning, from PSU Gymnasium to PSU Landmark. The parade was attended by the faculty and staff of the university, GADO Coordinators, the PSU Band, representatives from the University Student Government, and students.

Alongside the flag-raising ceremony which was facilitated by the faculty of the College of Sciences, the university’s celebration of the NWM kicked off with a program. It was welcomed through opening remarks given by Ms. Sanchia G. Santos – APSUAP President, followed by a welcome speech by Dr. Ramon M. Docto – University President, which was delivered by Dr. Grace N. Abrina – Director of the Office of Students Affairs and Services (OSAS).

During her speech, Dr. Abrina greeted the crowd and welcomed all women of different roles in society. She shared about the great and successful women of the community from then up to now. The OSAS Director also emphasized that women should not compete with men (and vice-versa). Instead, they should be equal partners.

Atty. Jocelyn Fabello – Gimpaya, the University Legal Officer, then delivered her inspirational message. She shared some important legislation protecting women in line with the advocacy for women and gender equality. Atty. Gimpaya also cited the Bawal Bastos Law, Safe Spaces Act, and other significant matters addressing harassment against women and LGBTQIA+ in any medium and form possible.

The program then concluded with closing remarks which was given by Prof. Taladtad, GADO Director.

The Palawan State University salutes all our strong women.
