In celebration of National Book Month this November and the 90th National Book Week 2024, with the theme “Magbasa, Mangarap, Magdiwang,” the University Library organized a special event from November 25 to 29, 2024, aimed at highlighting the intersection of digital literacy, customer service, and the evolving role of social media in the modern world. The event kicked off on November 25, 2024, with a session titled “Crafting Digital Footprints: Social Media, Website Management, and Elevating Customer Service Relations.” This engaging event was held at the American Corner in the Library Building, bringing together students, faculty, and professionals eager to learn about the strategies for managing digital presence and improving service delivery through online platforms.

The session was designed to address the growing importance of social media in both professional and personal contexts, especially as more organizations and individuals turn to digital spaces for communication and customer service. The speakers, each an expert in their respective fields, provided invaluable knowledge on how to navigate the complexities of social media management while also ensuring that customer interactions remain secure and meaningful in an increasingly digital world.

Among the distinguished speakers was Mr. Keith Andrew Asuero, ECT, PLA-1 Cybersecurity Bureau Provincial Focal, who presented on “Securing the Scroll on Digitalization: Cybersecurity Essentials for Social Media Platforms.” His talk focused on the rising concerns surrounding online security and the importance of safeguarding sensitive information in digital spaces.

Mr. John Louie Zabala, RL, MLIS, Archives Librarian at De La Salle University, also contributed to the event with a session focused on the role of social media in enhancing customer service relations. Drawing on his experience as a librarian and archives specialist, Mr. Zabala explored how academic and cultural institutions, such as libraries and archives, can leverage social media platforms to engage with their audiences more effectively. He discussed the growing need for digital literacy in customer service and how institutions can use social media not just for promotional purposes but also for building strong, interactive relationships with their communities.

In addition to the knowledge shared, the event served as a reminder of the significant role libraries and educational institutions play in guiding their communities through the challenges and opportunities of the digital world. The University Library’s commitment to supporting digital literacy and customer service excellence was evident in this well-organized and impactful event, which offered practical solutions for navigating the complexities of social media and online communication.
