DAY 2: The Higher Education Leadership Mentoring Seminar (HELMS) and Training Workshop on Publishable Paper for a Future-Ready University, a collaborative initiative between Palawan State University and the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) through the UPLB Office for Institutional Development in Higher Education (OIDHE), is being held from September 11-13, 2024, at Costa Palawan Resort.
The event is led by the PalawanSU-IPQAIA Team under the guidance of President Ramon M. Docto. The workshop commenced on September 11 with opening remarks and a statement of rationale from Engr. Jerico Padrones, IPQAIA Director, followed by a message from Dr. Jenielyn T. Padrones, Director of OIDHE, UPLB. Day 1 featured comprehensive sessions led by UPLB experts, focusing on selecting appropriate journal publications, an introduction to research methods, and techniques for writing quantitative research papers.
Today, September 12, Day 2, included a message from University President Dr. Ramon M. Docto. The morning session was highlighted by a presentation from Dr. Rufo Gil Z. Albor from the College of Human Ecology, UPLB, who discussed strategies for writing qualitative research for publication. In the afternoon, Asst. Prof. Julie L. Mandap from the College of Agriculture and Food Science, UPLB, provided insights into navigating the publication and peer review process. The day will conclude with closing remarks by Dr. Michael Doblado, Director of the University Research Office.
Tomorrow, September 13, the final day of the conference, will feature a series of plenary sessions addressing critical topics such as digital transformation, university research governance and culture, digitalizing student affairs and services, and HEIs as edutourism destinations. The conference will culminate with a roundtable discussion on “The Future of Higher Education Governance and Academic Leadership,” moderated by Dr. Janette H. Malatta Silva, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at UPLB.
The HELMS Conference is designed to enhance the educational landscape by addressing the evolving roles of higher education institutions (HEIs), equipping them with resources to tackle emerging challenges, and fostering collaboration between UPLB and other institutions. It supports Palawan State University’s goal of achieving international recognition and becoming future-ready by emphasizing the importance of research publication, which is essential for global competitiveness and advancing its aim of becoming a Research University.
