The turnover ceremony of the Angat Buhay Dormitory for Girls at Palawan State University (PalawanSU) was held on June 24, 2024, at Palawan State University, Puerto Princesa City. The project was made possible through funding from the Rotary Club of Makati in collaboration with Angat Pinas, Inc.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was personally initiated by Atty. Ma. Leonor “Leni” G. Robredo, Chairperson and President of Angat Pinas, Inc., and Mr. Senen L. Matoto, President of Rotary Club of Makati, accompanied by club members. Following this, the facility was blessed, a metal marker was unveiled, and a ceremonial key was handed over.
Dr. Ramon M. Docto, University President, expressed gratitude for the project, highlighting its benefits for students who will now have the opportunity to reside on campus. Mr. Joven Lloyd Hermano, Student Representative, and Dr. Janet B. Oab, Faculty Representative, delivered acceptance speeches with heartfelt thanks. Mr. Senen L. Matoto, representing the donor organization, Rotary Club of Makati, underscored the club’s nationwide efforts beyond Makati in response to community needs.
Atty. Ma. Leonor “Leni” G. Robredo, of Angat Pinas, Inc. (Angat Buhay), explained that their efforts began in the Office of the Vice President, with a focus on addressing poverty-related issues. They have observed significant instances of high student dropout rates, primarily due to the challenge of students needing to walk 3 to 4 hours to attend classes. Recognizing this barrier, they see the dormitory as an opportunity to support these students in continuing their studies without the burden of long commutes. The PalawanSU dormitory represents the 14th establishment completed under Angat Buhay’s initiative and the 4th in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Makati. The partnership with the Rotary Club of Makati exemplifies their shared dedication to making a meaningful impact across the country.

The event was attended by university officials, faculty, staff, students, and guests from various private entities. Special thanks were extended to Mr. Barry Codera, program manager for public education at Angat Pinas, Inc.
