PalawanSU Shines at Ridge-to-Reef Summit, Recognized for Contributions to Disaster Resilience
Palawan State University (PalawanSU) was recently lauded for its significant contributions to disaster resilience in the province during the Provincial DRRM Multi-Sectoral Ridge-to-Reef Management Summit held on July 24-25, 2024, at the Citystate Asturias Hotel, Puerto Princesa City. The summit, held as part of the 36th National Resilience Month with the theme “Bantayog ng Katatagan at ang Pagbubuklod sa Layuning Kahandaan”, brought together various stakeholders to discuss and develop strategies for a more disaster-resilient Palawan.
As a leading academic institution in the region, PalawanSU has been at the forefront of research and extension activities focused on environmental conservation, disaster preparedness, and sustainable development. The university has been actively involved in developing and implementing community-based disaster risk reduction programs, providing training and capacity building to local communities, conducting environmental education and awareness campaigns to promote sustainable practices and disaster preparedness among the youth and the general public.
The summit emphasized the importance of a ridge-to-reef management approach, which considers the interconnectedness of terrestrial and marine ecosystems. By adopting this approach, Palawan can better protect its natural resources and enhance its resilience to climate change and natural disasters.
The recognition of PalawanSU at the summit is a testament to the university’s commitment to its mission of serving the people of Palawan. As the province continues to face the challenges posed by climate change and natural disasters, PalawanSU remains dedicated to its role as a catalyst for sustainable development and disaster resilience.
