PalawanSU Amphitheater, April 30, 2025 — With the theme “Celebrating Vision, Craft, and Legacy in Three Acts,” the College of Architecture and Design (CAD) at Palawan State University hosted its second annual Triad Ceremony, encompassing the Obelisk Award, RecAP (Recognition and Awards Program), and the Hard Hatting Ceremony. This landmark event recognized outstanding achievements, honored legacy, and symbolized the transition of students into the professional world of architecture.
The Obelisk Award, the university’s highest honor in architecture and design, was presented in two categories. Mr. Reggie Duran was awarded for his exceptional contributions in the first category, while Dr. Janet Oab and Dr. Helen Sigua shared the distinction in the second category, recognized for their enduring impact on society through their work and leadership in the profession.
In her welcome remarks, Dr. Maila N. Lucero, Vice President for Academic Affairs, emphasized the importance of purpose-driven architecture, stating, “We build pillars of inspiration not just with plans, but with purpose.” Meanwhile, Dr. Venzon L. Limpiada, Vice President for Finance and Administration, underscored the university’s commitment to supporting operational excellence and the development of creative endeavors.
The event’s keynote speaker, Architect Honesto R. Teves, Puerto Princesa City Architect, inspired the audience by highlighting the meaningful role architects play in shaping collaborative and inspiring spaces. He proudly recognized PSU alumni who now contribute significantly to the City Architect’s Office, showcasing both completed and proposed city projects designed by graduates of the university.
Ar. Jefferson A. Bulan, OIC-Dean of CAD, elaborated on the ceremony’s theme and highlighted the college’s openness to collaboration, both locally and internationally. He reaffirmed the CAD’s ongoing mission to foster innovation and excellence in architectural education.
This year’s Obelisk Award jury included respected figures in the field: Ar. William Ti, Ar. Fernando Cunanan Jr., Ar. Rocksty Bacungan, Ar. Dax Augustus Cuntapay, and Ms. Samantha Mae Bernardo, who collectively evaluated the nominees’ contributions and impact.
Mr. Adrian Odasco, President of UAPSA-PalSU, received special recognition for his outstanding design of the Obelisk Award trophy, which now stands as a powerful emblem of architectural excellence, innovation, and leadership. His work, guided by UAPSA PalSU adviser Ar. Rodelito Garobo and supported by stakeholders Ms. Charlene Gem Bulan and Mr. Rolly Namoco, was instrumental in realizing the creation of this distinguished symbol.
The second part of the program, RecAP, celebrated academic and design excellence among students and faculty. Certificates of Completion were awarded to students who successfully completed courses under the BS Architecture program.
The ceremony concluded with the Hard Hatting Ceremony, a symbolic tradition marking the transition of senior architecture students into their apprenticeship and professional practice. Donning their hard hats with pride and joined by their parents, the students stepped into the next chapter of their architectural journey.
Distinguished attendees included Dr. Maila N. Lucero, Dr. Venzon L. Limpiada, and Dr. Gabilyn Orilla, Director of South Campuses. The event was also supported by the dedicated leadership of CAD: Ar. Jefferson A. Bulan, M.Arch (OIC-Dean), Ar. Cyndi Gersalia, M.Arch (Associate Dean), Ar. Ana Morales, M.Arch (Program Head), college coordinators, and esteemed faculty members.
The 2025 Triad Ceremony stood as a testament to PSU CAD’s commitment to honoring legacy, fostering innovation, and shaping the future of architecture and design in the region and beyond.
