January 13, 2025 – Palawan State University (PalawanSU) and Barangay Bahile today signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) at the Office of the University President, aimed at empowering the indigenous community.
- This partnership seeks to address the pressing needs of the community through a range of initiatives, including:
- Improving literacy and numeracy by providing educational support to children and out-of-school youth;
- Empowering parents by conducting livelihood and financial literacy training programs for them;
- Cultural preservation by supporting the preservation of the community’s unique culture and language;
- Promoting sustainable livelihoods by capacitating the community to develop and implement sustainable income-generating projects;
- Upholding indigenous peoples’ rights by raising awareness of the rights and entitlements of indigenous peoples; and
- Promoting mental health and resilience by addressing the mental health and well-being of community members.
This MOA signing between PalawanSU and Barangay Bahile was attended by Dr. Ramon M. Docto, University President, Dr. Marjorie A. Española, Vice President for Research, Development, and Extension, Atty. Jocelyn Fabello-Gimpaya, University Legal Officer, proponents of the extension projects, namely: Dr. Janet B. Oab, Faculty Regent and President of the Faculty Union, Dr. Leonora A. Beguina, Prof. Letecia B. Ventura, Mr. Rene V. Buliag, Prof. Maria Carmen S. Hernandez, Prof. Jenifer H. Alcorano, and Prof. Lilibeth E. Nadayao, together with Barangay Chairman, Hon. Dennis I. Borromeo and his Barangay Council Members.
Both parties exemplified their promise to bring about significant positive change in the lives of the residents of Barangay Bahile. This further strengthens the University’s ties with the local community, in line with its commitment to community engagement and social responsibility.
