June 21, 2023 – Finally, after 10 long years of waiting, 10 years after its inception, the University’s School of Medicine has finally received official approval and authorization from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) En Banc on June 19, 2023.
The provincial government of Palawan was headed by Hon. Jose Chaves Alvarez in 2013, and he had a plan to develop the local medical workforce in order to enhance the healthcare system in the region. The idea for Palawan State University’s (PSU) School of Medicine had been conceived at that time.
Essentially slowed down by the absence of a functioning tertiary hospital in the province to serve as the base hospital for our medical students, this was resolved with the help and cooperation of the stakeholders, including the Provincial and City Governments, Ospital ng Palawan, Palawan Medical Association, Philippine General Hospital, Department of Health, and Palawan State University, who made their respective commitments in a multi-sectoral Memorandum of Agreement (MOA).
The Palawan State University (PSU) School of Medicine is hereby given a government permit, and authority to operate and offer the Doctor of Medicine program.
Commission on Higher Education(CHED)Comm. Jo Mark M. Libre is the Chairperson-designate of PSU Board of Regents.
Congratulations, PSU community, BOR, and Pres. Ramon M. Docto.
