In solemn remembrance of the 54th Anniversary of the Declaration of Martial Law, the Palawan State University – Communication Society, under the College of Arts and Humanities (CAH), mounted an open exhibit titled “DEMDEMEN 2026” at the CAH Lobby on Monday, September 21, 2026.
The exhibit features dedicated panels, documentary screenings, and interview highlights underscoring the courage of journalists and victims during the Martial Law era. Attendees may also participate in a Freedom Wall outside the CAH Building and view educational infographic cards designed to foster critical awareness and historical accuracy. Central to the exhibit is an effigy crafted by BA Communication 2A students Blair Guanzon, Aria Greta, Lovie May Ubay, and Sabine Salvador, symbolizing press freedom and the mass media blackout during the regime.
The “DEMDEMEN 2026” exhibit will run until Thursday, September 24, 2026, at the CAH Lobby.
In line with these commemorative efforts, Palawan State University likewise expresses its solidarity in honoring historical memory. Pursuant to an Office of the University President (OUP) Memorandum issued on September 21, 2026, in response to the urgent request of University Student Government (USG) President Mr. Clarence Ruiz, the administration granted leniency allowing students to wear black attire, while reminding the community to observe existing university dress code standards. This initiative provides PalawanSUans the opportunity to express civic solidarity while upholding institutional policies and respect.
