On World Suicide Prevention Day (September 10), Palawan State University (PalawanSU) stands in solidarity with the nation and the world under the theme for 2024-2026, “Changing the Narrative on Suicide”, with a call to “Start the Conversation”.
For far too long, silence and stigma surrounding mental health have deepened the isolation of those navigating personal crises. Changing the narrative means shifting away from taboo toward open, empathetic, and compassionate conversations. It calls on our entire PalawanSU family-students, educators, staff, and loved ones- to actively listen without judgment, recognize warning signs, and offer meaningful support when it matters most.
At PalawanSU, we are committed to creating a safe, caring, and supportive campus where mental health comes first. To ensure accessible professional guidance for everyone, each college at the Main Campus has an assigned Guidance Counselor/Practitioner ready to listen and assist. Likewise, each cluster across our External Campuses has a designated Guidance Counselor to ensure accessible mental health support across all our learning centers.
Reaching out is never a sign of weakness-it is an act of courage and strength. If you, or someone you know is struggling, please know that you do not have to carry the burden alone. Help is available right here on campus, support is within reach, and there is always hope.
