Palawan State University (PalawanSU) hosted Her Excellency Sarah Hulton OBE, British Ambassador to the Philippines and Palau, for an official meeting and speaking engagement at its Main Campus on July 29, 2026. Ambassador Hulton was joined by key diplomatic representatives, including Mr. Gerald Magno, Head of Education at the British Council Philippines, and Mr. Euan Whitehead, Head of Foreign and Security Policy at the British Embassy Manila.
The visit began at the Office of the University President with a courtesy meeting involving top university administration officials led by PalawanSU President, Dr. Venzon L. Limpiada, followed by a formal presentation of the University Token. The delegation then transferred to the PalawanSU Hostel, where Ambassador Hulton delivered a keynote address on the United Kingdom’s global strategic outlook and its diplomatic priorities within the Philippines. The address concluded with an open forum and question-and-answer session, giving participants a direct line of engagement with the ambassador before a final commemorative photo session.
The high-level event brought together university leaders, including the University President, Vice Presidents, Deans from various colleges, and the Director of the Transnational Education, International Affairs and Linkages Office (TNEIALO). They were joined by a delegation of 55 student leaders, comprising representatives from the Colleges of Nursing and Health Sciences, Teacher Education, Hospitality and Tourism Management, Arts and Humanities, and Sciences, alongside officers from the University Student Government. This engagement served to affirm the United Kingdom’s commitment to supporting PalawanSU’s internationalization goals in partnership with the British Council and UK higher education institutions.
Furthermore, the visit sought to explore future avenues for research collaboration, transnational education, academic mobility, and faculty development. By understanding PalawanSU’s core strengths in sustainability, marine and environmental sciences, tourism, digital transformation, and health sciences, the initiative lays the groundwork for directly connecting the university with UK research centers and higher education partners.
