This week’s flag ceremony was led by the College of Teacher Education’s Department of Teacher Education. Mr. Rudyr Bacolod, DSEd Chairperson, paid tribute to the women in the PalawanSU community in celebration of National Women’s Month and challenged everyone, especially the teachers and leaders, to use their influence for the common good.
In her weekly Monday update, Prof. Marissa S. Pontillas, Officer-in-Charge of the Office of the University President, shared highlights from the Higher Education Summit that she attended last week, including the Commission on Higher Education’s push for universities to adopt and operationalize its 7-point ACHIEVE agenda which is also aligned with the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for 2030. Embracing a “whole-of-government” approach, she emphasized the necessity of embedding these goals into the curriculum, stating that all programs must clearly identify which specific SDGs they are targeting.
Prof. Pontillas also announced that Palawan State University entered into an agreement with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) MIMAROPA, the Provincial Government of Palawan, and the Western Philippines University for the “Tara, Basa!” Tutoring Program. Set to be implemented in the municipalities of Narra and Quezon this year, fourth year students from the Elementary Education, Secondary Education, and Social Work programs will serve as tutors for identified struggling readers.
Lastly, Prof. Pontillas proudly announced the results of the February 2026 Criminology Licensure Examination, highlighting the main campus’ remarkable 91.30% passing rate. With 105 passers out of 115, the University ranked 8th among the country’s top performing schools (in the 101–199 examinees category) in the recently released 2026 Criminologists Licensure Examination results. This success was further bolstered by the strong performance of the external campuses with 55 passers from Brooke’s Point, 27 passers from Coron, 19 passers from PCAT Cuyo, 21 passers from Narra, 20 passers from Roxas, and 13 passers from El Nido. Prof. Pontillas congratulated the deans, faculty, and support staff, noting that as One PSU, the success of a single unit represents a shared achievement of the entire university.
