Freshmen and Senior High students of the Palawan State University once again took part in the annual “Freshmen Walk, Welcome and Orientation” program held by PSU on June 19, 2017. The program held the theme “Staying Strong, Moving Forward” and was organized by the PSU Office of Student Affairs Services (OSAS).

The activity began with a flag raising ceremony held at the PSU Marker in front of the Administration Building, followed by a short parade to the PSU Gymnasium, which was attended by students from the different colleges and senior high school departments.

The parade was followed by a thanksgiving mass, officiated by Rev. Fr. Eugene Elivera, and welcome remarks given by Dr. Eva Jimenez, the Vice-President for Academic Affairs. Dr. Jimenez warmly greeted the new PSU students as they begin a new chapter of their lives as students.

Prof. Marissa Pontillas, Officer-in-Charge of the Office of the University President, likewise gave a message at the event. She echoed Father Elivera’s words which stressed the importance of prioritizing honesty, hard work, and love, in relation to one’s education.

In addition to the Welcome Program, an Orientation Activity was held in the afternoon, with students being lectured on the rules, regulations and policies of the University. The orientation activity also featured lectures from OSAS Guidance Counselor Prof. Lucia Fresnillo, and the Office on Women, Gender, and Development (OWGAD) Director Prof. Floralice Josol. Students were also informed on the services offered by the University, which included Security Services, Health Services, Food Services, and Library Services. - PSU Barita
