The Palawan State University has just co-hosted the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) 2015 Southern Luzon Cluster Science and Technology Exhibits entitled “Agham na ramdam: Kaunlaran ang Ilalaan”.
Held at the Puerto Princesa Coliseum, the audience was clearly dominated by PSU students for the 3-Day affair. Dr. Patrick Regoniel, Director of the Palawan State University Research Office, expressed his satisfaction at the participation of the PSU.
“I am happy that our students are quite involved in this rare event. They are really going to the booths to learn about the technologies being presented here today. This event should inspire the creation of ‘commerciable’ technologies. Our students can innovate something which perhaps can also be a source of income for them in the future.” he said.
In his many speaking engagements since his appointment, Sec. Mario Montejo of the Department of Science and Technology has always been clear and consistent in the drive for technology-based endeavors which have commercial potentials, always ready to support SMEs (small and medium enterprises) and new innovators.
With this it is no surprise that the DOST Science Fair has always been a much-awaited event that showcases original and meaningful Filipino innovations whose continuing success has been made possible by the DOST.
One of the key personalities who attended was Chairman of the Regional Development Council, Hon. Eduardo C. Firmalo, who underscored the critical role of the DOST.
“These innovations have been transformed into business initiatives. The DOST is always there for the community. It plays a role in poverty alleviation. The DOST is very sincere in supporting our innovators,” said the honorable RDC chairman, who is also the incumbent Governor of Romblon.
The DOST has proactively given assistance in funding, logistics and even marketing. It has even gone as far as ensuring that brilliant innovators are trained to do actual business.
To give encouragement, Gov. Firmalo offered sound advice as he ended his speech. “Our master plan is not yet finished, “he said. “Sa atin pong lahat, ang pinagsama-sama na lakas ng bawat isa ang importante para manatili. Kumbaga sa bangka, sabay-sabay tayong sumasagwan. There should be unity in diversity, and teamwork among us. Nasimulan po ng DOST ang napakalakas na programang ito.”
