Puerto Princesa City – The Palawan State University conducted its first mandatory drug testing of employees in the Performing Arts Centre last January 9-13, 2017.

With the Provincial Health Office as the only drug testing government agency authorized by the Philippine Government, a Memorandum of Agreement was signed between the Palawan State University and the Provincial Health Office. The memorandum, spearheaded by the University’s OIC President and Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Lorna C. Gelito, made it clear that every employee in the University, no matter what his or her standing is, should undergo the test as mandated by the Government.

The PHO team led by Medical Technologist Cyrus Caabay, Unit head of Environmental sanitation and Public Health Laboratory of the Provincial Health Office of Palawan, teamed up with PSU’s Medical Laboratory Staff headed by Dr. Danny O. Aquino in securing the collection of specimen and the supervision of more than a hundred employees of PSU Tiniguiban campus who participated in the said activity.

In celebration of their success, the University looks forward to welcoming the next batch of lawyers to graduate from the School of Law.

The successful activity paved the way for the possibility of future drug testing and other health improvement activities in the future. Also, it will serve as an example for other government agencies to comply, and for the University to prove that the employees are on the proper and right path. – LLOYD VILLA
