The Palawan State University on Sept. 4, 2017 formally began its Intramural Meet 2017. Held each year, the Intramurals pits athletes from the different PSU colleges both from the main campus and extramural campuses attempting to win the championship.
The festivities began with a parade from the PSU campus leading to the Puerto Princesa City Sports Complex, where an opening ceremony was held. The parade featured colorful displays and costumes together with the competing athletes from the PSU Main campus colleges, as well as the North and South PSU-CCRD campuses, and PSU Cuyo campus.
Prof. Marissa Pontillas, Officer-in-Charge of the University President’s Office, gave a short message about the importance of valuing sports, and the celebration of sportsmanship and fair competition. She also formally declared the opening of the PSU Intramural Meet. Prof. Pontillas also took the opportunity to express the University’s gratitude towards the Philippine Football Federation for its donation of sporting equipment to PSU.
Aside from Prof. Pontillas’ message, the opening ceremony also featured the lighting of the Friendship Torch, and the raising of the flags of the different PSU colleges by the deans and department heads. Moreover, the different colleges gave colorful and lively numbers representing the different ASEAN countries.
Finally, aside from sports and athletics, the PSU Intramurals will also feature recreational activities and other competitions, sponsored by PSU’s many colleges and student organizations.
