On the same day that outgoing Engr. Nena Zara was honored for her service as the Dean of the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology for the past couple of years, the college also officially welcomed the entrance of new Dean Engr. Melchor Jaramilla.

“Unang una nais kong magpasalamat sa tiwalang binigay sa akin ng ating unibersidad, at ni President Sespeñe upang pamunuan ang ating kolehiyo,” said Dean Jaramilla in his acceptance speech, the very first address that he gave in his capacity as Dean of the CEAT.

The youthful Engineer also shared that he has been in constant dialogue with Engr. Zara for the past 2 weeks, as he could not help but notice the amount of problems that were pouring in from day to day. Engr. Zara clearly buckled down to work, particularly choosing to mentor Engr. Jaramilla even before her term officially ended. This was much appreciated by the new dean himself.

“Katulad ng sinabi ni Ma’am Nena, ang tagumpay ng ating kolehiyo ay nakasalalay sa bawat miyembro ng CEAT family. Kailangan ng suporta, kooperasyon, dedikasyon at commitment lalong-lalo na sa faculty,” said Engr. Jaramilla, echoing the words spoken to him by his predecessor.

3 M’s: Model teacher, Modest teacher and Modern teacher

First off, Dean Jaramilla emphasized the need to examine what it takes to become a model to the students in the community. As an example, he pointed out the typical discipline that teachers expect from students, citing that this expectation should also be applied to oneself as a member of the faculty.

Secondly, encouraged the use of modesty to encourage pride in one’s work and not give in to the pressures and temptations that come with the privilege of being a teacher.

Finally he talked about the importance of employing modernity in knowing the ways and means to make the transfer of knowledge to students more effective. He also made sure to mention how this figures in the upcoming ASEAN Integration, where the need to harmonize and globalize methods of education among ASEAN nations has been the key to ensure that the community is not left behind in terms of development.

“The success of the faculty and students is the success of our school. Sana pagtulung-tulungan natin. Ibigay natin ang lahat ng ating makakaya. Sa lahat ng kasamahan at kasangga sa CEAT, pilitin nating i-angat pa yung ipinakita ni Ma’am Nena sapagka’t alam ko na kayang kaya pa natin,” he said in closing.
