Still on its steady journey towards excellence, the Palawan State University headed by President Dr. Jeter S. Sespeñe welcomed one of the country’s leaders in the field of Accreditation, Dr. Manuel T. Corpus, Executive Director of the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP), Inc. (AACUP Inc.).
Dr. Corpus is an acknowledged international expert on accreditation. Today, since he is sharing his expertise on Level III and IV accreditation under AACUP standards, it is very noteworthy to indicate that achieving a Level IV status implies that an institution has standards that are assured to make it competitive at the international level.
Dr. Cecilio Manarpaac, Director of the University Quality Assurance Center has expressed high regard for the guest of honor.
“Dr. Corpus is the perfect resource who can surely help and guide us through the accreditation process,” said Dr. Manarpaac.
Just like Dr. Sespeñe, Dr. Corpus holds the rare achievement of handling at least two State Universities in his storied career. He served as University President of Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University and also the Cagayan State University. Currently he serves a dual role in the AACUP, being its Executive Director and at the same time he also holds a strategic seat at the Agency’s Board of Trustees.
President Sespeñe, who admittedly treasures the privilege of working with Dr. Corpus in the past went on to elaborate on the importance of the latter’s visit to the PSU today attended by figureheads in the PSU including Chairpersons, College and Quality Assurance Coordinators, Members of the Accreditation Task Force and PSU AACCUP Trained Accreditors.
“This (AACUP Accreditation) is the roadmap towards the development of higher education institutions. Here is where we see that we are going in the right direction. I thank Dr. Corpus for being with us today,” said the very hopeful President.
This critical moment in accreditation and quality assurance shows that President Sespeñe has continually held his firm commitment to uplift the standards of the Palawan State University across the board. The community can expect to welcome more people of influence this 2015, especially as the whole PSU community is currently in the midst of its celebration of the University’s yearlong Golden Anniversary.
