Enactus Philippines, a highly recognized International Organization and longtime advocate of entrepreneurship as a means to create good in the world, has finally come to the Palawan State University.

In a full day affair, they graced the PSU grounds to conduct a Recruitment program that aims to result in an establishment of a student program on campus. The hope is for this student program to become a venue for the students to apply their business concepts “to develop community outreach projects that improve the quality of life and standard of living for people in need.”

Present to open the program was Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr Lorna Gelito who said a few words of inspiration to what proved to be a very enthusiastic audience.

“We all know that entrepreneurship is important because it drives the economy. Use the power of entrepreneurial action to shape a better future for you, your community and your country,” she said.

Prof. Rose Aquino of the PSU College of Business and Accountancy, was there to supervise the students, who were mainly composed of members of the student organization Young Entrepreneurs Society (YES) which she heads as adviser.

Asked for her thoughts on the day’s event, Ms Aquino shared, “The Enactus program brings together the academe, students and business leaders to create worthwhile community projects. This is also related to the Extension program of the PSU which is concerned with Community development.”

No less than Ms. Vilma Ocromas, National Program Director for Enactus Philippines was there to preside over the event. Setting the expectation for the day’s itinerary she remarked, “We will train you to become socially responsible entrepreneurs.”

Along with Ms Ocromas was Ms Patricia Alvero, National Program Coordinator for Enactus Philippines. She did not hide her enthusiasm about the partnership with PSU as she bared her hope that Enactus would inspire the students to create change in their surrounding communities.
