Hon. Franz Josef “Chicoy” G. Alvarez, congressman of the First District of Palawan was the guest speaker at the joint graduation ceremonies which witnessed the recognition of the graduates from the PSU CCRD North Campuses of Roxas, Taytay, Araceli, El Nido and Linapacan.

The youthful leader addressed a very excited crowd of graduating students and their parents. His graduation message was warmly received, as it was laden with references to realities that are close to the hearts of the graduates who so happen to belong to the social media generation.

He spoke of the advantages of being a part of culture of instant gratification, but he was quick to highlight the importance of family.

“Kung marami kayong oras para sa Facebook ninyo, dapat may panahon din kayo para sa pamilya,” shared the congressman, who is touted in some circles as the future leader of Palawan.

Cong. Chicoy, as he is more popularly known, has been a staunch supporter of education, having generously awarded a significant number of scholarships for students who wish to uplift their lives and the lives of their families with a bachelor’s degree.

In parallel with the Congressman’s regard for the importance of family, President Jeter S. Sespeñe himself took time to encourage the graduates to rise from their seats and go to their parents to offer their apologies for their shortcomings and to give their thanks for the tireless and painstaking efforts their parents went through in providing them with a good education. This unique gesture was met with a very emotional moment which literally brought everyone to tears.

With this development, things are looking up for many citizens from the Palawan community in the years to come. The PSU has fully embraced its role as the provider of quality education in Palawan. Coupled with the generosity and enthusiasm of leaders such as Congressman Chicoy, this shall translate into a successful undertaking for both the public sector and the academe.
