The Palawan State University Extension Office has recently hosted a training on its ongoing Barangay Integrated Development Approach for Nutrition and Improvement (BIDANI) Program.

Bancao-Bancao Bgy. Chairman Marilou S. Gumangan echoed her sentiments on the BIDANI training.

Madadagdagan po ang aming ideya at aming kaalaman sa pagpapaunlad sa aming barangay,” she said.

The BIDANI is all about nutritional empowerment. This is a program that originated from UP Los Banos in the 1980s and has been implemented by other state universities. Last year, expert trainers from the UPLB came to the PSU to equip participants with the competencies for what was then its vision to implement the BIDANI here. Since then, the PSU has been doing its share in serving the community here in Palawan.

For this, the PSU has chosen Bgy. Banco-Bancao as its pilot Baranggay and the PSU is happy that Bancao-Bancao has responded positively to the BIDANI.

Malnutrition has been a major issue as a whole and the experts from UPLB have found it practical that the solution be addressed at the barangay level.

For this training, the focus is on PNEA or Participative Nutrition Enhancement Approach.

With Bancao-Bancao being a pilot barangay for the BIDANI here in Puerto Princesa, the PSU hopes to be able to do the same for other barangays within the city. Chairman Gumangan has some words for the other barangays which will benefit from the BIDANI in the future.
